HS3F+HEXOS
WORKSHOP ON THE LINE ANALYSIS
25-28 May at CESR, Toulouse (France)
- GOAL of the workshop: to make the point and get familiar with the existing tools and databases for the identification of lines in the sub-millimeter/far-infraredspectral range. The workshop will have a few general presentations followed by hands-on sessions with practical exmples. Two tools will be specifically used: CASSIS (developed at CESR) and XCLASS (developed at Bonn/Koln). In order to be efficient, partecipants are suggested/requested to download these packages before the workshop. Links to the web sites for the downloads will be soon posted here.

Installation of MySQL and the CASSIS Database
I. Conventions :
• YOUR_MYSQL_DIRECTORY : usually “/usr/local/mysql/bin" on Linux and Mac installation.
• YOUR_CASSIS_DATABASE_DIRECTORY : the directory where cassis-database-2.0.tar.gz was unzipped.
II. Installation of MySQL
II.a Download and install MySql if not yet installed on your computer :
• CASSIS requires Version 5.x of MySQL (Not working with version 4.x)
• We recommend version 5.1
• We have experienced some problems with the beta version 6.0
Choose the package that corresponds to your operating system at the bottom of this link (read II.b Notes before !):
• http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.1.html
Install all packages present in the installation package corresponding to your operating system, and make sure MySQL server is running before continuing CASSIS
installation.
II.b Notes :
• on Mac : It's recommended (really !) to download the mysql package format (not TAR parckages). Don't forget to reboot your mac to be sure that the
server is running. Please refer to readme file on mysql package format file for more details.
• on Ubuntu : We recommend to get MySQL, via the apt-get tool. Simply running “sudo apt-get install mysql-server” will get you MySQL 5.1.
• on Red Hat : You can download the Red Hat Package manager ou RPM
III. Download the CASSIS Database
http://cassis.cesr.fr/download/cassis-database-2.0.tar.gz
IV. Installation of the CASSIS database :
This should be done from a terminal/X11 window
IV.a If you have an old CASSIS database installed, drop it out :
• cd YOUR_MYSQL_DIRECTORY
• ./mysql -u root mysql
• mysql> DROP DATABASE cassis;
• mysql> exit
IV.b Create Cassis database on MySql, Cassis user and set privileges :
• cd YOUR_MYSQL_DIRECTORY
• ./mysql -u root mysql
• mysql> CREATE DATABASE cassis;
• mysql> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON cassis.* TO 'cassis'@'localhost';
• mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
• mysql> exit
IV.c Notes :
• Copying/pasting the mysql commands above if the safest
• From Ubuntu 7.10, the mysql directory is automatically in the global path, you can just enter "mysql -u root mysql"
• For some mysql versions/platforms you could have to define a user named "cassis" before the command "grant all..."
• For some platforms you have to remove @'localhost' in the command "grant all..."
• For some platforms you have to replace localhost by localhost.localdomain.
IV.d Fill your CASSIS database
• cd YOUR_CASSIS_DATABASE_DIRECTORY
• YOUR_MYSQL_DIRECTORY/mysql -u cassis cassis < cassis-database-2.0.sql
!!!!!! Warning, this operation takes time, there are 5701457 transitions in the database : up to 1 hour on slow computers
V. Check everything went OK :
• cd YOUR_MYSQL_DIRECTORY
• ./mysql -u root cassis cassis
• mysql> select count(*) from transitions;
The result should be : 5701457
If you encounter any problem, please contact the CASSIS Project Manager, Jean-Michel Glorian :

IMPORTANT NOTE: For those who have already make templates in the old version of CASSIS, do not forget to export all these templates before dropping the old CASSIS database or they will be lost. Although the database structure has changed and you'll need to make some corrections on these templates, this will take less time exporting them before.
